Gareth Cliff has given ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula a tongue lashing after the latter was pictured driving around a township in a R3 million G-Wagon during the party’s election campaign.

The outspoken radio personality is one of many public figures who condemned the former minister over his lavish display of wealth.

Following the social media backlash, Fikile stated that the luxury vehicle did not belong to him. According to the SABC, the vehicle belongs to controversial bodyguard and Pentagon security owner Anwar “Dogg” Khan. The bodyguard was recently arrested on fraud and corruption charges relating to the University of Fort Hare.

FIKILE MBALULA RESPONDS TO G-WAGON CONTROVERSY

Earlier this week, Fikile Mbalula and his entourage made a door-to-door election campaign in the Durban township of Inanda. The former minister of police arrived in style in a R3 million bulletproof G-Wagon.

On social media, Fikile was accused of being “tone-deaf”.

Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader Mmusi Maimane tweeted: “The people of Inanda have no water, they have no jobs and the community is suffering.

“Fikile Mbalula and the ANC decide that they are going to show off their top range G wagon Mercs while asking poor and hungry South Africans for votes. Nasty work”.

Responding to the backlash, Fikile Mbalula told media during his walkabout: “We use different modes of cars. I don’t own a G-Wagon. If a G-Wagon is offered to our security as a means of mobility for the election, it doesn’t define us

Fikile added that “lies were pedalled” against his character as the vehicle belonged to Anwar “Dogg” Khan, who is accused of fraud and corruption.

He continued: “To make it an issue and sensationalise it is unfortunate.

“We have nothing to do with Mr Khan, and neither do we have any relationship.”

GARETH CLIFF CALLS ANC OFFICIAL A ‘HYPOCRITE’

On his X account, Gareth Cliff also joined in with criticism of Fikile Mbalula.

Reposting a clip of the ANC Secretary-General, the CliffCentral founder tweeted: “This is like when John Kerry flies in a private jet and criticizes rich people for their carbon footprint; or when every other hypocrite tells you to do as they say, not as they do.

“Fikile loves a G-Wagon and couldn’t say no, even though this one was lent to him by a crook.

He added: “These venal, grasping parvenus are always caught trying to become the crass rich people they hate, but we’re expected to pretend it’s not obvious. ‘Tsek”.
