Full moon dates for 2024: here’s when to look up!

Full moons are bright, beautiful, and illuminated events.

A full lunar cycle usually happens once every month, although some special ‘blue moons’ happen twice during a 30-day period. The South African has written about blue moons before.

January: Starting with a blue moon

January 2024 started with a blue moon.

Blue moons happen twice during the same month, which only happens ‘once in a blue moon’ – thus, rarely.

June’s full moon is happening on 21 June 2024.

This lunar event is called the Strawberry Moon, although it also has other names like the Hot Moon and Planting Moon.

July’s full moon event is happening on 21 July 2024.

It’s one month after the previous moon. However, most lunar cycles aren’t exactly 28 to 30 days apart.

It’s called the Buck Moon, although also the Thunder and Hay Moon.

August’s lunar event happens on 19 August 2024.

The Sturgeon Moon is what we call August’s lunar event.

That’s 17 October, 2024.

It’s just in time for Halloween, happening during the same month.

However, most lunar events aren’t precisely measured but happen on different dates every month. October is an exception!
