The defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will continue to cross-examine investigating officer Sergeant Batho Mogola at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday, 24 April.
SENZO MEYIWA MURDER TRIAL CONTINUES
Mogola is part of the SAPS members who investigated Meyiwa’s death, led by Brigadier Bongani Gininda.
The defence lawyer for accused 5 advocate Zandile Mshololo asked Mogola about the draft warrant application for the arrest of singer Kelly Khumalo.
Khumalo was Meyiwa’s girlfriend at the time of his death, and they share a child together. Furthermore, Khumalo was present when the goalkeeper was shot.
Surprisingly, the Senzo Meyiwa murder case has two dockets, which were investigated by two teams. Khumalo is named as a suspect in docket 375.
Disbarred advocate Malesela Teffo, who represented accused 1 – 4 in the trial, revealed that the Director of Public Prosecutions in the South Gauteng division wanted to pursue a case against the seven people who were in the house the night Meyiwa was murdered.
The indictment stated that the right people who have to appear before court are:
Longwe Twala (accused 1), Kelly Khumalo (accused 2), Gladness Khumalo (accused 3), Zandie Khumalo (accused 4), Tumelo Madlala (accused 5), Mthokozisi Twala (accused 6) and Maggie Phiri (accused 7).
Accused 1 to 6 are said to have hatched a plan to say armed robbers had entered the house and shot Meyiwa. Accused 7 is said to have cleaned the house before the arrival of the police at the crime scene.
FIVE MEN ARE ON TRIAL FOR THE MURDER
Five men are on trial for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. The men are; Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli.
The men face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence, and possession of ammunition. All five pleaded not guilty.
WHEN DO COURT PROCEEDINGS START?
Court proceedings normally start at 10:00, adjourn at 11:15 for a tea break, run again until 13:00 for lunch and resume again at 14:00. However, due to unforeseen circumstances on a particular day, there are delays, and sometimes, the court adjourns for either tea or lunch earlier than the set times indicated above.
