Leicester Tigers poach schoolboy sensation from Paul Roos

The Leicester Tigers have announced its capture of the highly-rated South African Cameron Miell, who played for Paul Roos last year.

In a statement on the English club’s official website, the Leicester Tigers confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old Miell, who completed his Matric at Paul Roos Gymnasium at Stellenbosch last year. He was a member of the school’s first team for the past two seasons.

A versatile forward, who is primarily a prop but has played across the pack at school level, Miell joins the Tigers Senior Academy.

Commenting on his decision to sign for the Leicester Tigers, Miell said: “I am delighted to be awarded this fantastic opportunity with Leicester Tigers and cannot wait to test myself and learn in such a world-class environment.”

Tigers interim head coach Wigglesworth says he is excited to work with Miell because the teenager’s unique talent and the potential he has.

“Cameron is a young man with a physical presence on the field and a lot of potential in the game.”

“In a very short space of time, he has shown a real work ethic and desire to improve. We’re excited to see what comes of Cameron and working with him to develop his game at Leicester Tigers.”

TEENAGE SENSATION JOINS FOUR COMPATRIOTS AT LEICESTER TIGERS:

Miell is now become the fifth South African player on the Tigers’ current payroll, with Springboks Handre Pollard (flyhalf) and Jasper Wiese (No 8) already representing the club alongside Hanro Liebenberg (flank) and Francois van Wyk (prop).

Former Bulls lock Eli Snyman, who is Zimbabwean, also turns out for the Tigers.
