Paul Roos clinched a hard-fought victory against Grey High in the blue-ribbon contest of this week’s schools rugby fixtures, while KES, Pretoria Boys’, Paarl Gymnasium and Grey College.

Paul Roos are on a roll at the moment and they are showing no signs of slowing down nor bowing down to anyone.

The Maroon Machine from Stellenbosch beat hosts Grey High 21-7 in Port Elizabeth in the televised Premier Interschools showdown.

The result saw Paul Roos earn a sixth consecutive win in 2024, a feat that’ll give immensely boost their confidence as they head in the Wildeklawer Rugby Festival in Kimberley next week, where they will face Monument and Maritzburg College, respectively.

The visitors outscored Grey High three tries to one, with prop Oliver Reid, loose forward Gert Kemp and wing Keenan Stoffels crossing the tryline. The home side’s touchdown came via flank Likona Sodlaka.

Elsewhere, KES claimed first blood in the first of their annual two-game derby against Jeppe, outlasting their traditional rivals 38-28 in a thrilling encounter in Johannesburg.

Staying in Gauteng, Pretoria Boys’ claimed an agonising 36-35 win over Parktown Boys’ after a riveting rugby clash between the sides.

Paarl Gimnasium hammered their Cape rivals SACS 35-10 to return to winning ways following their bitter defeat to Grey College a week ago.

In the other rugby games involving powerhouse school teams, Grey College thrashed Selborne College 36-7, Michaelhouse lashed Kearsney College 34-19, Wynberg bashed Bishops 35-8, Hudson Park stunned St Stithians 19-12 and Hilton College overpowered Glenwood 26-7.
