Cape Town City are a serious bogey team for Kaizer Chiefs. They meet again this weekend, and we have all the details for you.

City vs Chiefs: Key info

Athlone Stadium is the stage with the sides meeting on Saturday 30 March at 15:30. Chiefs midfield duo Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo will miss the match because of an accumulation of bookings. meanwhile, rumoured Amakhosi target Khanyisa Mayo is in the Golden Boot race with nine strikes in the league.

CAPE TOWN CITY ARE A BOGEY TEAM FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

Seventh-placed Chiefs travel to Cape Town City on Saturday with both sides in need of points to stay in touch for a two-two finish. City have won just one of their last eight league games, and City boss Eric Tinkler has reminded media of the fickleness of football. Chiefs are in poor form themselves, coming off the back of a Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates. Amakhosi have won only one of their last six assignments. It’s a genuine clash between two teams bang out of form. Tinkler’s team will be optimistic though.

In terms of the H2H, City have won five of their last six league encounters against Chiefs including each of the last four. City’s triumph over Chiefs on the final day of 2022/23 condemned Chiefs to a fifth-placed finish in the league and helped the Citizens secure fourth in the DStv Premiership at their expense. Amakhosi’s last win over City in the league was in January 2021.

MIDFIELD CRISIS AT NATURENA

Midfield duo Yusuf Maart and Venezuelan star Edson Castillo are suspended for Amakhosi’s weekend clash with Cape Town City. The pair have picked up four bookings this term. Venezuela played two friendlies in the USA this past week. Venezuela is now ranked 52nd in the world according to FIFA, down from 50th. Edson Castillo was a 78th-minute substitute against European champions Italy, in a match which the Azzurri won 2-1. Arsenal midfielder Jorginho came off the bench to supply the winning goal for Genoa striker Mateo Retegui. Castillo has made 18 league appearances this term for the Glamour Boys, while Maart has appeared in all 20 of Amakhosi’s league assignments this term. 22-year-old Samkelo Zwane is expected to deputise; he’s only played six league games this season.
