Harrowing stuff for Amakhosi fans too.

Four years have elapsed but former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana is still haunted by a chilling memory.
Chiefs are struggling in the league this season, currently in a scrap for eighth place in a congested DStv Premiership mid-table. The FCSB defender gave a candid interview to FarPost recalling his experience of the 2019-20 title run-in when Amakhosi lost their chance of glory on the final day with a 1-1 draw against Boroka. Sundowns completed their side of the bargain by beating Black Leopards, sealing another league crown. Chiefs were in charge of the title race before the COVID-19 pandemic suspended all footballing activity.
26-year-old Siyabonga Ngezana vividly remembers that day and how the scars remain.
“It still cuts deep and it’s still the memory because I’m still stuck to that memory you know,” Ngezana told FARPost from his Romania base.
“It’s still in my memory that Sundowns took the league like in the last game of the season after we played a draw against Baroka FC.
“The league just slipped away just only in the last 30 minutes of the game. So, it is still a memory that is still in my head and remember it vividly.”
FCSB, formerly Steaua Bucuresti, are no stranger to success but it’s been a while since they last won the league title. That all changed this season. Ngezana’s side were confirmed as champions in April for the first time since 2015. They’ve now won 27 domestic titles in their storied history. It’s Ngezana’s first taste of silverware, and he’ll feature in the prestigious UEFA Champions League next term. Well deserved.
Amakhosi have four matches left of the DStv Premiership campaign. Only two points separate them in eighth place (33) and AmaZulu in twelfth (31) so it’ll be an almighty scrap to finish in the MTN8 qualification places.
