Amakhosi management have some big decisions to make with several Kaizer Chiefs players’ contracts expiring at the end of the season.

The new coach will have his work cut out for him. He is tasked with returning Amakhosi to their glory days with fans growing frustrated with their poor form in recent seasons.

Moreover, he is set to have the final say on which Chiefs players stay and which leave the club at the end of the current PSL season. This includes making a huge decision on Amakhosi legend Itumeleng Khune as well as their highest-paid player, Keagan Dolly.

FULL LIST OF CHIEFS PLAYERS WITH CONTRACTS EXPIRING IN 2024

  • Itumeleng Khune
  • Keagan Dolly
  • Edmilson Dove
  • Jasond Gonzales
  • S’fiso Hlanti
  • George Matlou
  • Njabulo Ngcob
  • Siyethembe Sithebe

Therefore, whoever Amakhosi appoint as their new head coach will have the final say on these eight players.

However, early indications are that only Hlanti and Dolly could earn contract extensions. This will depend on whether the new coach approves of Hlanti and if Dolly is willing to take a pay cut. Meanwhile, management have mixed views on Sithebe, with recent reports stating that they are leaning towards letting the Amakhosi midfielder leave Naturena.

LIKELY EXITS ON THE CARD FOR SEVERAL AMAKHOSI STARS

Furthermore, Matlou, Gonzales and Khune are all at risk, leaving at the end of the season.

“Matlou is only 25, so he has time to rediscover the form that saw him being signed by Chiefs, but he’ll do that somewhere else, not at Chiefs next season,”

“He is not even making the match day squad these days, and that shows that he is not in the coach’s plans hence the club has decided to let him go at the end of the season,” the insider reported on Phakaaati.

Meanwhile, as previously reported on the South African, management are set to let go of Gonzales after an underwhelming 12-month loan spell at the club. Finally, Amakhosi legend Khune looks set to take up a coaching role, with his contract set to expire in June. That is unless the new coach sees him, or any of these players as a part of his mission.

“Early indications are that Dove could be retained. “He has shown the right attitude, whether playing at left-back or in central defence. Unless something drastic happens, he’s likely to stay at the club for another two seasons,” a source told FARPost.

As for Ngcobo, he has attracted interest from AmaZulu. So, it will be interesting to see what the new boss decides.
