Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will face each other on a new date following the postponement of the 30 April match.

As exclusively reported by The South African, the two PSL giants will play this match on Thursday, 2 May at FNB Stadium.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

At the time of publishing the story, this website’s sport desk had not gathered the reason(s) for the postponement except that it was at the request of the PSL.

Now, the reason has been made public, and it has everything to do with the fixture congestion in respect to Sundowns.

Sundowns have played the fewest games of all the teams due to their CAF Champions League commitments.

And the league is trying by all means to accommodate Sundowns and ensure that the season end timeously.

WHY KAIZER CHIEFS VS SUNDOWNS WAS POSTPONED

Now, it has come to our attention that this fixture was postponed simply because the PSL rescheduled the TS Galaxy vs Sundowns matches.

It is worth noting that TS Galaxy and Sundowns are yet to play each other in the league this season – they only played in the Carling Knockout Cup.

According to the league’s new fixture schedule, Sundowns will play TS Galaxy on Monday, 29 April at Loftus Versfeld Stadium hence the Chiefs game has been moved to 2 May.

The reverse fixture between TS Galaxy and Sundowns has been rescheduled for 28 May at Mbombela Stadium.

This is the same match which was supposed to be played on 6 March this year but it had to be postponed after the TS Galaxy team bus was involved in a fatal accident.

SUNDOWNS UNBEATEN IN THE LEAGUE IN 600 DAYS

Meanwhile, TODAY, 24 April, marks exactly 600 days since Mamelodi Sundowns last lost a league match, according to OptaJabu.

The last time Sundowns lost a league match was on 22 September 2022 to SuperSport United during which they still had a co-coaching arrangement.

However, they did away with that, and Rulani Mokwena took over in October 2022 as the club’s head coach.

Since their last league loss, Sundowns have played 46 league games, and they have impressively won 35 and drawn 11.

With that said, the Brazilians will definitely defend their DStv Premiership crown which will be their seventh in a row.

They eased the pressure on them on Tuesday by beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 to move to 56 points after 22 points.
