Mailula posts emotional message to Sundowns

Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Cassius Mailula took to social media to thank the club for launching his football career.

The 22-year-old is already in the United States after securing a move to Major Soccer League with Toronto FC before the start of the season.

Mialula impressed in his first season for the Brazilians which earned him a move to play in the MLS where he’ll rub shoulders with global soccer icon Lionel Messi. He scored nine goals in 18 matches for Masandawan helping them to their sixth PSL title in a row.

Mailula could face Messi as early as September

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the President and Chairman for taking care of me for a whole 9 years at Sundowns,” Mailula wrote on his Instagram page.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and my family. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me. To all the Mamelodi Sundowns academy coaches, thank you for helping me and guiding me throughout my time at the academy. You mean so much to me because I wouldn’t be where I am today without you guys,” he added.

Former Downs man could make his MLS debut next week

Mailula has already started training with Toronto FC and could make his debut this coming Monday when they take on fellow Canadian team Montreal FC.

The Bafana Bafana international could get an opportunity to share the pitch with football’s greatest player of all time Lionel Messi when his side face Inter Miami in September.
