Kaizer Chiefs have turned down the chance to sign Jasond Gonzalez at a knockdown price but that can’t come as a massive surprise.

Jasond has been a disaster at Kaizer Chiefs

24-year-old Colombian Efmamjjasond Gonzalez, aka Jasond, has yet to break his goal-scoring duck for Amakhosi in 12 appearances. This season he’s made nine outings in the DStv Premiership. According to iDiski Times, Chiefs have decided against making his loan move a permanent deal.

AMAKHOSI WON’T TRIGGER SIGNING OPTION

“Kaizer Chiefs have opted against taking the option in Jasond Gonzalez contract to make his loan move permanent. This publication has learnt, that the physical striker will return to Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season. His loan deal, which had an option to make the deal permanent for $180,000 (R3.3 million) will not be pursued further after failing to score in his 12 games for Amakhosi.” wrote the publication.

Scoring woes aren’t unique to Gonzalez

Shockingly, Chiefs have only scored 19 goals from 24 league games this term and have a goal difference of zero. Last term they managed 32 goals in 30 games at an average of 1.07 goals per game. Their average stands at 0.79 goals per game in 2023/24. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to notice the problem plaguing them and how it’s worsened. It’s been NINE HALVES, or 405 minutes of football since Chiefs last hit the back of the net. The last Amakhosi player to score for the club? Ashley Du Preez against Pirates on 9 March.

Is Mokwana the answer?

According to a report from iDiski Times, it would take R35 million to prize Elias Mokwana, Babina Noko’s jewel in the crown, away from Sekhukhune. Let’s be realistic, that number will drop sharply once Sekhukhune receives some formal offers for the Bafana Bafana man. He’s got four goals and four assists in 20 league appearances this term, a stellar output for a wideman. It’s been reported that Mokwana is the object of foreign interest, so Chiefs and perhaps Soweto rivals Pirates will need to act fast to get their man.

Which striker do you think should come in to replace the departing Jasond Gonzalez?
